SPIRITUAL DIRECTION
What is it?
Spiritual Direction refers to the active conversation between two people that centers on the directee's relationship with God/Divine Presence/Higher Power, Spirit of What is life-giving.
Together they listen for the underlying flow of life(often named 'spirit') in the directee's story. Staying with the reality of our life- the fidelity to the NOW - reveals the place where God/Spirit is present.
What do Spiritual Directors do?
A spiritual Director provides a safe atmosphere for another to share his/her story and assist her/him to Reflect, Notice, Respond;
Reflect:
Spiritual Direction is listening reflectively to that which is deeper than words.
Notice:
Spiritual Direction is a process of enabling another "notice" how God/Spirit/Higher Power is present in her/his life.
Respond
The Spiritual Director enables people to hear and trust their own inner wisdom, the place where God/Spirit/Higher Power is with them, and to respond to that presence
The goal of Spiritual Direction is the integration of a person's spiritual development in all aspects of everyday life.
Spirituality is present in a person's lived experience.
This experiential level of spirituality embraces the whole human person who is part of a constantly changing creation.
In this way every human person has spirituality.

The Role of Spiritual Directors
Spiritual directors are women and men who value their own spiritual journey.
In any time or place, cultural differences and a variety of faith traditions always nuance spiritual direction. Within the context of contemporary pluralism and mindful of the complexity of to-day's society, directors aim at integrating prayer and life, contemplation and action, faith and justice, in their own lives as well as in the lives of their directees.

What Happens in a Spiritual Direction Session?
In formal spiritual direction one meets with a director monthly for about an hour.
The director provides a safe environment for a person to share his/her story.
During the time together the director will accompany the person on his/her journey of life by:
* Companioning the person in articulating his/her story
* Facilitating the integration of all aspects of his/her life experience.
* Enabling the person to connect with the sacred life that is within them,and all life and harmonizing with the environmental world.
* Enabling the person to foster respectful and just relationaships on every level - harmonious relationships within the person, between people, among people, with the entire cosmos , with the Holy.
